The "Consolidation and expansion of the belvedere, arrangement of systems and furnishings of the D'Annunzio promontory" project promoted by the Adm Municipal of San Vito Chetino, has affected one of the most important places on the Adriatic coast called "dei trabocchi", due to the strong naturalistic characteristics that have made it important also from a historical and literary point of view. The place in question, the natural scenography of the pages set on the Theatine coast in "The triumph of death" by G. D'Annunzio, is a complex place from the design point of view since it is our designers' opinion that the real expression of places like this is traceable in its natural characteristics and not in artificial interventions and that therefore the design approach must be as less invasive as possible in the search for the original characteristics and in safeguarding the state of affairs. The promontory has characteristics of a strength that is difficult to find in other contexts. Overhanging the sea, on an overflow, separated from it by the clear line of the railway, in the center between the Ortona promontory and the Punta della Penna di Vasto promontory. The access road to the belvedere is connected to the SS. 16 and with this defines a strip of land mostly occupied by residential buildings and with only one public establishment intended for catering. Other residential units are located east of the road towards the sea and a concrete staircase and a dirt road are also grafted onto this road that descend to the base of the lookout on a plateau close to the railway, where it is possible to appreciate the view of the ridge from below and of the sea on the other side. The context, in general, with its extraordinary tourist vocation, is affected by the disorder of private buildings and the action of time and atmospheric agents that have compromised both the aesthetic and static characteristics of the promontory with the reduction of the original dimensions of the belvedere floor. Given the premises, an intervention focused primarily on the rehabilitation and static consolidation of the ridge was studied, an issue that represents the emergency within the more general redevelopment intervention. Secondly, the environmental redevelopment is aimed at improving the tourist usability and enhancing the characteristics of the belvedere by intervening both on its dimensions, through the expansion of a part, and by improving the logistical and furnishing equipment of the whole area.
